I find this an amazing hat... not only because it's beautiful and in Excellent, near mint condition... but also because of the gold stamp inside which reads "Pratt Institute, Brooklyn". Luckily, I have great website viewers... and here's the info from one of them! "Two of my great grandmothers took sewing at Pratt (c.1900) so I visited the school and made copies of course outlines, etc. The overall department was the Department of Domestic Art. The courses given at the turn of the century were Normal Course (for learning about teaching sewing, etc.), Sewing, Dressmaking, Millinery, Costume Design, Art-Needlework, and Physical Training (Swedish educational gymnastics). The millinery program consisted of 2 lessons a week for 3 months each for 4 grades. Looks like the hat your selling would be from the 3rd and 4th grade winter season where they learned 'making velvet hats and bonnets; toques and evening bonnets.' There are photos in the course catalogue and one is from a millinery class. The photo shows finished hats on stands down the centre of a table with girls working on millinery projects sitting on either side of the table. I think therefore that thats a good guess that your hat is one of the schools designs for the girls to learn from." Great huh! So.. here's an original black velvet hat in a "scrunched" design (yes, "scrunched" is a technical term for those of us who never graduated from millinery college!), topped with an ecru silk satin floppy "bow" covered with black netting. And then there is the terrific goldtone ornament that is curved to follow the lines of the hat! Perfect condition with perfect lining inside. All you need is some hair to pile up so that it perches as it should. Will need hatpins to stay on. By the way, how do you like Brigetta as a redhead??? I finally bought her a wig so I can stop apologizing for her baldness. Oops, I'm off the subject again, sorry! The perfect hat for an outfit like the one below!

Christine Original was the maker/designer of the other hat on this website that I just loved! This one is a bit too wild for me... but since it was owned by the same woman who owned the feather hats, I'd say she spent lots of nights out on the town! I'd love to see the dress that went with this! Can't even imagine it! And this is why I'm not a fashion designer. Great metallic fabric pleated on a stiff form. Little bow tie at top. Jewels are attached here and there for extra glitter! As if it needs it! :) Makes a statement! Under $150, so final sale.

Lucky for you I'm from Boston so I know that Cyreld was a very expensive boutique shop! They sold only the best stuff. So this is a great quality hat. Likely pig leather... to be strong enough to keep it's shape. Has the button at top. No brim. Excellent condition. Under $150, so final sale.

Just as we have experienced over the last few months, during WWII, American pride was at an all time high. Symbols of liberty were seen everywhere... even in a woman's hat! For the collector. For the historian. For those of you who love whimsy. Here is a huge felt hat in the shape of the crown of the Statue of Liberty. Trimmed in a brown velveteen at the face. The back has a tuck with likely held a simple feather.. easily replaced. From the high-classed Saks Fifth Avenue department store... so this was for the high-fashioned woman who wasn't afraid to be noticed! Excellent condition. Under $150, so final sale.

Add your own decoration on the black silk ribbon band. How about a turquoise pin? Under $150, so final sale.

I've got a thing for lame.. can you tell? you can pretty much tell the condition by looking at the photo... gently worn.. but the only thing I can't explain is how they change color in the light. This is how they look. However when you take them out of the light, they look like a bronze - tarnished looking. I can't explain it. But there is it. The real thing. Under $150, so final sale. SIZE: 5 1/2 or 6 Narrow
SOLD on LAYAWAY#2848 - c. 1908/1909 Parisian (?) Huge Black Velvet Hat with White Feathers! According to Susan Langley's Vintage Hats book, " The sweeping Cavalier or Musketeer hats became the rage after the 1911 silent film 'The Three Musketeers'." These were usually bi- or tricorn, so this was probably an earlier even though the sweeping feathers draped over the hat have the same cavalier look. And the immense size dates the hat as well, along with a McCall's fashion plate from October 1908. Most likely a Parisian hat, although this hat is from Scranton, PA, It was sold by an "Importer"... and usually they were not imported from China! :) Very good condition.. just a tiny bit of wear to the velvet and probably had more ornamentation at one time (just a guess). Measures: 18" diameter!! $ 445. SOLD on LAYAWAY
SOLD#1444 - c. early 1900's Original Black Straw Salvation Army Bonnet! Owned by Mrs. EB White! Perfect time of year for this original Salvation Army bonnet! Grab your bell, put on a cape and get out on the streets! I have the history of this bonnet from the previous owner. Mrs. EB White immigrated from England "to save her life and save souls". This is the story from the granddaughter. The family (with the family name of Bule) was quite religious and Mrs. White thought this to be her calling. The bonnet is Black straw with cranberry colored ribbon and silk lining. In Excellent condition with just a bit of soiling to the inside and some wear to the chin strap. Bet you won't see another! I've looked at old photos and it seems to be pre WWI when the hats looked more military styled. $ 245. SOLD
SOLD on LAYAWAY#6168 - c. 1920's Lovely Pewter and Silver Floral Lame Brocade T-Strap Evening Shoes! Wearable size! These look better in person... the lighting makes it look dark or worn, but it's only the lighting. Still nice lame with only one small area on each shoe with the slightest tarnishing. Still I'm being picky! The condition is really Excellent with the exception of the ugly spotting on the interior as the leather insole is gone. SO they just need a new insole. That's easy... so sad that they have lost their label though. Always fun to know where the shoes began life! :) These look better in person... oh, I already said that, but it's worth saying again. I give the measurements as people ask, but they don't mean anything! Measures: 10.5" long x 2.75" wide. $ 465. SOLD on LAYAWAY
Approx. - SIZE 7.5 AA?
SOLD#6252 - c. 1923 BLANCHETTE, Paris, New York Delightful Lampshade Shape Mocha Brown Velvet Cloche with Shaded Ribbon Embroidery! One of my personal favorites! I call it my "pinwheel" hat. I keep expecting those decorative ribbon embroidery pinwheels to start spinning! :) This is one of the larger sized cloches, so it's a bit too large on "her" as she has a smallish head with only wisps of hair, so it will look better on you... more "clochy". The decorations are of slightly metallic shaded ribbons, off-white braided silk floss, brown chenille and silk wrapped ropes of rust, aqua-green, ecru and mocha. The silk velvet is SOOOO soft. Great hat! The only issue is wear of the silk at the lower edge ropes, but mostly only seen underneath, inside and b bit on the ecru. Exterior is nearly perfect! $ 485. SOLD
SOLD on LAYAWAY#1760 - c. 1900 RARE Gold Lame Brocade Open Front Evening Boots! Museum Quality and Condition! I've had these in my personal collection for many years so you know how much I love these!! They are in remarkable condition... nearly like new... with just a hint of tarnish at the very tip of the toe and, of course, normal wear to the sole. But, my goodness, "she" wore these with care! And from the obvious care in storing for over 100 years, they were obviously loved by the all the owners over the years. The photos will show you all you need to know. Old gold lame floral brocade with fully open front tied up with matching old laces (seem to be original as they match perfectly). White kid leather interior. Made have been custom made for the original, obviously wealthy patron. Museum Quality and condition! I give the measurements as people ask, but they don't mean anything! Measures: 10" long x 2.75" wide, 2" heel. $ 1,495. SOLD on LAYAWAY
