#6438 - c. 1990's CHRISTIAN LACROIX (?) Red Plum Colored Trapunto and Embroidered Dinner Suit! My "profession" opinion that this is a Christian Lacroix suit for three reasons. 1) It has original Made in Italy labels still inside, 2) There is an outline on the lining of the jacket in the exact same shape as the uniquely large Lacroix label , and 3) It's certainly has the right Lacroix look! SO... I'll bet you I'm right! :) It almost doesn't matter what the label as the suit is so beautiful that the designer label isn't necessary to know the quality! A gorgeous red plum color with full trapunto treatment (quilted look!). The large pockets and upper back are embroidered with metallic gold and red, greens, and white for the flowers. Nice jeweled button at uniquely shaped neckline. Great seaming at shoulders and at waistline. Pencil skirt. Wear together as a suit, or separately. Measures: 34-36" bust, 25" waist skirt, 18" long skirt, 25" long jacket. Small shoulder pads. Near mint condition. Approx. - SIZE 2/4
(check measurements above)
SOLD#4823 - c. 1966 MAINBOCHER Sumptuous Golden Metallic Evening Gown with Original Slip! Magnificent fabric of gold, pink, mint green and yellow metallic paisley... Elegance with flash! Excellent condition with just ever so slight wear under one armhole. Looks like 2-piece but it's a dress with side nylon zipper. Measures: 34" bust (small cup size best!), 27" waist, 40" long from waist to hem. Slip has 24" waist, 37" long and has large stains on the slip only. It's an added bonus to have it, but not necessary as the dress has it's own shape. Gorgeous gown... even the interior is beautiful! $ 1,865. SOLD
Approx. - SIZE 4/6 (slip has small waist)
(all measurements are maximum, slightly smaller is OK!)

Geez I wish I had videos rather than photos to show you so you could see this gown in motion - as it's fully beaded so will catch the light at every minute movement. All those little white spots you see are clear beads on black rayon crepe. Awesome! AND comes with the original matching fully beaded bolero (see photos). I'm showing the gown in some photos with some rhinestone clips as that how it would have been accessorized... but they don't come with it. Love that low back with double straps! This gown fits like a glove!!!! So slimming on.. but you have to be small to start with. Metal zipper on side. Near Mint condition! Measures: 33/34" bust, up to 25" waist, up to 34" hips, 55" long from shoulder to hem, 58" long in back. Approx. - SIZE 0

#4743 - c. 1960's SORELLE FONTANA Export, Made in Italy Raw Silk/Linen Wiggle Dress with Jacket! Museum Deaccession! Quite rare to find a 60's Sorelle Fontana suit! FYI, according to the Life in Italy website, Sorelle Fontana is Rome's "Prominent and Oldest Fashion House - and is known as Couturiers to the Stars. Their beautiful designs became highly sought-after by Hollywood stars, famous women and the Italian aristocracy. Ava Gardner wore Fontana on and off the set. And Sorelle Fontana even designed for the movies, including dressing the young Audrey Hepburn in "Roman Holiday". Many others such as Princess Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor wore their designs. They designed their first ready-to-wear collection in 1960. AND, according to the museum hangtag on this suit, they date it to 1960, and the label indicates "export", so... I have to assume that this is a wonderful museum example of possibly the first collection of RTW by Sorelle Fontana! Excellent condition. The exquisite art noveau print dress bodice is the same material lining the boxy jacket! So beautifully tailored, it could nearly be worn inside out! The tie on the dress can be worn showing the print side out, or solid side, depending on the look you want. Back metal zipper. No skirt slit, so you will wiggle! Measures: 36" bust, 25" waist, up to 35" hips, 20" long jacket. Also Listed in the Museum Category. Approx. - SIZE 10
(all measurements are maximum, slightly smaller is OK!)

Click on image for additional photos!#6081 - c. 1980's ARNOLD SCAASI Metallic Print Strapless Ballgown! When looking for designer duds, always try to find the best labels from those designers. For Scaasi... look for the full "Arnold Scaasi" label (as you see), not just Scaasi. Scaasi opened his ready-to-wear line in 1956, and won the Coty Fashion award in 1958. However a few years later he dropped his ready-to-wear line and decided to just focus on his high fashion made-to-order pieces... opening his couture salon in 1964. He dressed Barbra Streisand, Ivana Trump, Lauren Bacall, Elizabeth Taylor and Mary Tyler Moore among others, and designed Barbara Bush's 1989 inaugural gown now at the Smithsonian. This is one of those high quality gowns! In a gorgeous pink and gray coloration of a metallic silk fabric with ribbon design feature. And that bustline!! Like old ribbon candy... and may help a smallish bust to look larger! Slightly dropped waistline gives just about anyone an hourglass figure. Stunning. Near Mint condition. My favorite description of Arnold Scaasi is that of "ballgownmeister"!! Measures: 34/35" bust, 24/25" waist, 45" long from natural waistline to hem. Metal back zipper. Fully lined in pink silk. Likely an $8,000-$10,000 gown new! Approx. - SIZE 2/4
(all measurements are maximum, slightly smaller is OK!)

Click on image for additional photos!#4264 - c. 1980's BOB MACKIE Coral Silk and Sequin and Beaded "Jessica Rabbit and Tulip" Gown! Don't even think about this unless you want to show off your breasts!!! Bob Mackie built some of his early dresses with the same understructures that enhanced the bodies of many a famous actress. If you look at the interior, you will see there are cups for the breasts that almost act as cushions. The bodice top may not fit tightly, but your breasts will be hidden in the cushioning... just ever so slightly! Really... this is a gown for those of you who prefer a bit of exhibition.. or perhaps that's just how it fit me! I just made up that name for the gown, but it fits perfectly! Bodice is a lovely concoction of sequins and beading in a abstract floral design. Please note... the gown was WAY too small on this hard-busted mannequin, so the back is open in one photo.. in the other back photo I played a bit, so you can see it closed at back, so the design back there isn't real! Just me playing! Look at the photo of the unclosed back to see the real design back there. Excellent condition with two practically invisible spots on the skirt. Back zipper. Measures: 33/34" bust, 25/26" waist, up to 40" hips, 41" long from waist to hem. Approx. - SIZE 2/4

Click on image for additional photos!#4797 - c. 1967 SHANNON RODGERS for JERRY SILVERMAN Minty Green Silk Shantung Mod Dress with Fabulous Lattice Work Hemline! This label was established in 1959. Rodgers had previously designed for the movies, and Silverman worked at Martini designing adaptations of Paris fashions. Together they were known for their Americanized versions of Balenciaga designs with simple, elegant dresses often with a single decoration to add interest. Well... this dress certainly fits that description! :) However.. I need help. This is silk, but it's either shantung or perhaps dupioni.... has slubs in the fabric and has a great sheen. So who out there can email me the difference??? I often get my higher education from my website readers! :) What I DO know is how to find amazing dresses! This is one of those that you dream about. The color in person is killer! Perhaps a bit lighter than in the photos (depending on your monitor screen). Simple A-line shape with back zipper and the two simple bows at low front and high back. Beautifully well-made dress. Excellent condition, but it does have minor spots (see close-up photos for the three areas). They are extremely light and forgiveable and tend to get lost in the fabric sheen and slubs. You won't care once you see this gorgeous dress in person. Measures: 36" bust, up to 31" waist, up to 38" hips, 36" long from shoulder to hem. Fully lined in fine silk and feels awesome on! Approx. - Size 6/8
(all measurements are maximum, slightly smaller is OK!)

Click on image for additional photos!#9742 - c. 1950's Tulip Shaped Pink Silk Satin Brocade Strapless Evening Gown! This is one of those gowns that you'd think would have a designer label like Elizabeth Arden or Helena Barbieri. The material is a flattering pink on hot pink silk satin brocade which has a great sheen to it. The bodice has the "crumb catcher" design, but can be worn three different ways (depending on how you position the horizontal crumb catcher piece). I've shown it all three ways in photos. It's a subtle difference, but a difference. And oh.. the hemline!!! Tulip shaped and depending on your height can train a bit at back... or not. Attached waistband has a large matching bow at front. Back metal zipper. Excellent condition. Measures: 35" bust, 23-25" waist (25" without using the inner waistband), up to 41" hips, 33" long from shoulder to hem in front, 43" long in back. Certainly if the bust is too large, it can be tailored to fit. Approx. - SIZE 0 (larger bust)

This is THE gown worn by Felicity Huffman at the 58th annual Emmy Awards - she was an on-stage presenter that year with Kiefer Sutherland awarding Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. Comes with COA. The gown still has some residual tape at the back neck and breasts to keep it in place for Felicity. So.. gals... tape up your own breasts (or if you are one of those who has perfect perky breasts anyway... I hate you! :) and find a red carpet somewhere! And don't forget to just happen to have this photo of Felicity in your evening bag to show off! Exquisitely classy even with the extreme low cut bodice. Has that beaded and smoky rhinestoned ornament at the upper shoulder. Excellent condition. Measurements and more photos coming, but approximately size 4/6. Also Listed in the Memorabilia Section. Geoffrey Beene started his own line in 1963 after working for Teal Traina (no surprise... this has the look and tailoring you would expect!). Obviously one of his earliest pieces. Wonderful. Low scoop neck tunic with wide satin hemline. The wide belt loops through 4 slits. Worn over a matching skirt... or if you are bold, you can wear the tunic alone over tights. Near Mint condition. Slash pockets hidden at seams! Measures: 36" bust (perhaps up to 37"), 25" waist of skirt (can certainly make larger as it's totally covered!), up to 37" hips, Tunic is 31" long from shoulder to hem, skirt is 22" long, Both together is 38" long from shoulder to skirt hem. There is a 4" hem which seems perhaps original for the weight and era. This great very wearable AND collector piece comes direct to you from the private collection of a 1960's high fashion model!TOTALLY in VOGUE now! Approx. - SIZE 6/8

Because of her innovation and talent, Jo Copeland designs were often copied. Even Ceil Chapman copied this look as I have a Ceil dress with similar raspberry colored trim! Jo Copeland's quality construction demanded high prices. This is one of the early labels. Exceptional dinner dress! Black thin silk crepe dress. The entire bodice is covered with black openwork lace, studded with black sequins. The raspberry velvet bodice trim and matching large bow. Excellent condition. There is one sequined button missing... I would just replace the top button with something similar. Measures: 35" bust, 24/25" waist, up to 36" hips, 40" long from shoulder to hem. Approx. - SIZE 4

Click on image for additional photos!#4502 - c. 1950's OLEG CASSINI Russet Colored Lace Dress with Original Design Patent Tag! For those of you who have vintage clothing worthy of a museum, this dress should be added to your collection! The design itself is, of course as you can see, fabulous... but it's the original Design Patent tag inside that is so unique! Frankly I've not seen a tag like this on any dress before. Perhaps it's that rare, or perhaps I'm just not looking hard enough. I know of two other black lace Cassini dresses of the same design, so obviously the dress was produced, but perhaps this could be the original sample? Seems slightly better as the others with the bows at straps, and the shape seems a bit more elegant. You know Oleg Cassini as the official couturier for Jackie Kennedy during her White House years. I'm sure this design was a bit too sexy for her, but would have worked beautifully on his finance, Grace Kelly. Russet color lace in "sunburst" design skimming over a more fitted sexy russet sheathe dress with plunging bodice of nude fabric. Tie bows at shoulders and back. The condition looks Excellent, but is Very Good, as there are small breaks in the lace under the arms (see photos) and one short lace line break on the bodice near front/side. Still a wonderful museum quality early Oleg Cassini dress with great tag! Measures: 34" bust, 24/25" waist, up to 36" hips, 26" long from waist to hem. NOTE: To keep dress is best condition, Final Sale Item! Also listed in the Museum Category. Approx. - SIZE 2/4

Yeah, I'm sure there is a better name for this kind of top... it's kind of a cape or blouse or jacket or whatever. The beauty of the dress is in the simplicity of the shape... high "v" neck, interestingly cut-in sleeveless shoulders, and elliptical waist seaming getting lower at back. The bolero is also sleeveless, button front with attached ties to tie. Measures: 35" bust, 26" waist, 36/37" hips, 40" long from shoulder to hem. Back metal zipper. The ties on the bolero can be tied a few ways.. but I liked this best. Lined in voile for that classy touch. Excellent condition with extremely minor dust marks which I'm sure will be made perfect with one dry-cleaning. Oh, and the the tag is a bit dirty (who cares!). Approx. - SIZE 4

I don't know... could be 1960's as well. This one is hard to date for sure. Suffice it to say "it's vintage" if anyone asks. Great fabric in a royal blue netting over a matching blue silk crepe studded with silver bugle beads and large rhinestones. Gorgeous, but tiny so read on if you happen to Measure: 30" bust, 25" underbest (empire), up to 28" waist, up to 37" hips, 58" long from shoulder to hem (56" long from shoulder to hem if you want to steal some rhinestones!). The scarf is 46" long x 9" wide. Back nylon zipper. Excellent condition except for some beads/rhinestones missing here and there... so... as I mentioned, if you hem up to a 56" long (still quite long), you will have extra stones and beads to replace those missing. And voila... good as new! Smashing on the right small-boned gal! A wonderful, exciting gown that won't overwhelm you. Approx. - SIZE 0

What does one say about this dress! Totally unique! The gold lame studded animal silk print dress with great tie belt attached... and then comes the brown crushed velvet sleeves which is designed to look like a short bolero or shrug. Now there is no way I can explain the color of these brown velvet sleeves... they have a reddish hue in certain lights and just looks so amazing!! They are wild!! I guess that goes with the animal print dress! :) Totally unique. Measures: 38" bust, up to 33" waist, up to 42" hips, 44" long from shoulder to hem. Click on image for additional photos!#3970 - c. 1990's NOLAN MILLER COUTURE Ivory Embroidered Open Lace Organdy "Mermaid" Slightly Trained Gown! I bought this gown some years ago from a large Nolan Miller auction. Many of the pieces I purchased were designed specifically for the New York City Ballet Company for "Sleeping Beauty", "Swan Lake" and some others. However, in the midst of this auction came this lot of SEVEN of these Nolan Miller Couture open lace "mermaid" gowns - all matching, FOUR in perfect condition! These are the COUTURE line, NOT what you would find in your local department store. Absolutely gorgeous. Embroidered openwork lace organdy of bows and flowers skim over the body and then flares out at knee. Satin band around bustline and bow at back. Zipper at back. Most of these gowns also come with matching long gloves (which are very long and tight... so I'm not sure they are wearable unless you have ballet dancer's arms). Just so you know, I recently saw this same gown sell on a different vintage clothing website for $2,000. Well worth that, but you luck out and can buy for less. The skirt has 4-layers!! Excellent condition. Gown #1 Measures: 32" bust, up to 26/27" waist, up to 37" hips, best for 5'2" gal. Gown #2 Measures: 31/32" bust, up to 26" waist, best for taller gal 5'6"+. Would make a wonderful wedding gown, or just a formal gown. Add some black trim or a black wrap and long black gloves for a Black & White ball. Also Listed in the Wedding Section. Dress #1 - $ 1,250.

Every once in a while I dress up in my own vintage pieces. Only rarely, as I spend most of my time working on this website!!! No time to go anyway. My job is to dress YOU! However, I was an usher at a local theater production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and needed something perfect to wear to get the audience "in the mood". I wore this sexy, tight-fitted number with black beading at neckline and hipline, black macrame also at the hipline, and then that great overskirt of long silk fringe originally worn by Whitney Houston! I got a thrill from telling people who wore it before me... as well as from over-heading the ladies in the audience say to each other "look at that great dress". The fringe moves with you as you shimmy, it shimmies! It looks better on when you actually have arms! :) Impossible to measure. Totally stretchy! I had to cuff up the sleeves for my 5'2" body, but worked fine. 41" long from shoulder to hem. Back zipper. Rhinestone buttons at upper back. Excellent condition. Also Listed in the Whitney Special Category. Approx. - SIZE 2-6

Probably partly due to the association with Audrey Hepburn from way back. But whatever it is that draws me to them.. this dress harkens back to those classic 50's Audrey dresses. And this one you can purchase for a bit less than the $807K paid for Givenchy's "Breakfast at Tiffany" black dress! :) This is not the cheaper Nouvelle Boutique ready-to-wear line. Nearly black heavy cotton pique sundress with open back just closed with three bows snapped into place. White and green stylized daisy print. I've lightened some of the photos so you can see the tailoring. I still may decide to keep this dress for myself... so buy it before I change my mind! Near mint condition. A pretty colored lavender wool tweed double-breasted suit in the typical Jackie Kennedy shape of the early 1960's. Interesting seaming at the edges to give a hint of design tailoring. Even the skirt zipper is interestingly positioned. Fully lined. 1/2 length sleeves will show off your jewelry, or your matching lavender leather gloves (yeah, it will give you something to search for! And isn't that part of the vintage fun?) There are two rows of large lavender buttons with snaps under to keep it nicely in place. Fully lined in lavender. The label reads Giter, Roma - Made in Italy - P.zza Barberini 11, Roma. Measures: Up to 40" bust on jacket (meant to be worn boxy), 26" waist, 23" long skirt (with 3" hem). back zipper. I'll bet this was a good label, but I have no information. I'm sure one of my customers in Italy will know! For the quality, it should be more... but since I don't know the designer... you win! Excellent condition. Be a lady!! Approx. - SIZE 6

I know there are loads of 40's parties and weddings to attend, and you will be so happy to have this waiting in your closet when all those other girls are scouring cyberspace and flea markets with panic in their eyes searching day and night for something, anything perfect to wear. Love the sheer net yoke which allows for the faux off-the-shoulder look! Very fitted bodice, fully beaded to glitter in the light, to the flippy crepe skirt and the perfect little beaded peplum. For a totally different look, wear with a 50s petticoat for a wide, more "new look" skirt! Which, frankly, might have been the original concept for this dress... a cross between 40's and 50's. Surprising back metal zipper... surprising as you might expect to see it on the side of the dress rather than the back, but again, that just proves it to be late 40's. Unlined as it originally was. Click on image for additional photos!#9910 - RARE c. 1960's HELEN ROSE Couture Pink Beaded Dress! Helen Rose was one of the few top Hollywood Designers from the 1940s-60s. She costumed over 200 films for MGM, was honored with 10 Oscar nominations and two Oscar wins! She designed wardrobe for a long list of stars. And her designs are memorable...such as Elizabeth Taylor's famous white wrap dress and slip from "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". She was Grace Kelly's favorite, designing her wardrobe for "The Swan" and "High Society" AND her personal wedding gown, as well as Elizabeth Taylor's first wedding gown to Nicky Hilton, a white satin gown embellished with seed pearls and beading which had taken a number of beaders two months to complete! Helen's consumer line, "Helen Rose Couture", existed from 1957-1972. In 1957, the price for her couture version of the Liz Taylor "Cat" short chiffon dress was $250! So you can just imagine the original price of this beaded gown! Easily $2000+ in the 60s! Fitted fully beaded dress with extremely flattering low "v" neckline both front and back. Fabulous floral beaded and rhinestones over the entire bodice and wide band at hemline. Awesome! If Helen Rose was good enough for Grace Kelly and Liz Taylor for their wedding gowns, well... By the way, don't forget to mention the Grace Kelly / Liz Taylor connection to every woman in the room! Measures tops: 33/34" bust, 23/24" waist (23" inner band), 35/36" in the hips, 39" long from shoulder to hem. This is an opportunity to experience the luxury and glamour that was reserved for filmland's most beautiful women. Near Mint condition! The BEST of the BEST! Also listed in the Museum Category.

James "Thunder" Early's (Eddie Murphy) silver sharkskin suit with black collared jacket. Matching pants with black tux stripe, flat front pants. Great paisley lining. Obviously screenworn (as you can see in the photos). Comes with the original costume department wardrobe tag. Comes with COA from the Production company. Eddie Murphy is one tiny guy! Measures: 31" waist! How long's it been since YOUR guy had a 31" waist?? :) OK... I just measured the waist again, and perhaps it's more like a 32"... but still!!! I can't tell you if the jacket is a 36 or 38 or what. I have no man that size to try it on for you (which is really the only way to be sure!), but here are all the measurements. First the pants... the inseam is 31.5" long (there is an extra 1.5" in the hem of the pants to make longer if necessary). The jacket sleeve measures 36" long from middle of back of neck across the shoulder to the end of the sleeve on the outside, and measures 18.5" from underarm to end of sleeve. Across the shoulders from seam to seam is 18". It's 17.25" across the back between the shoulder blades (remember, this era was MEANT to be worn TIGHT, so it won't be roomy on purpose!!). 28.5" long from neck to bottom at back. And if you lay the jacket out flat, it measures 21" across the chest area. Enough? Excellent, near Mint condition. Also Listed in the Memorabilia Category. Approx. - SIZE Men's 31" waist, 36 Jacket (?)

SOLD#6009 - c. 1970's Huge White Patterned Cotton Pique Poppy Sungown! So pretty. Like the "unikko" Marimekko poppy print... though I personally think this is nicer! But alas, no label. Even Oscar de la Renta has a pretty poppy print dress for this Spring! Designed with full skirt that could have easily been an elephant leg jumpsuit, but luckily it isn't! It's a gown. The most wonderful summer gown you will ever find. Dress it up for the evening with a chiffon scarf and heels. Dress down for the day with espadrilles and large red hoop earrings. Measures: up to 36" bust, up to 28" waist, up to 41" hips, 57" long from shoulder to hem. Unlined, but beautifully made inside and out! Excellent condition with tiny tiny spots on back (see photos), otherwise bright white and nearly like new. $ 465. SOLD

SOLD#4836 - c. 1957 GALANOS Gold and Beige Brocade Bubble Dress with Low Back with Original Belt! One of those lovely and hard to find early Galanos dresses. I'm sure I could have found better undergarments to "poof" out the bubble skirt, but I didn't, so please use your imagination. I'm a sucker for gold, and it's very much in vogue these days. The brocade has a lovely gold patina of yesteryear, not the flash and trash of today's gold. The photos on your screen may look quite gold, but it's really a soft elegant gold (all computer screens are slightly different... looks right on my laptop, and too gold on my Mac). So you will have to trust me that it's elegant! Oh heck... trust Galanos! :) The dress is uniquely designed at front with two "panels" attached at the shoulders. I'd decided to wrap them across the bust and under the belt as you see, but if you look at some of the other photos, you will see that you can tie them in a sailor look, or probably other ways as well. The low back is fabulous with covered button detail. The condition is great... with exceptions. The belt is a bit stiff (see photo), but really this bit issue is that there is much discoloration (probably water damage) at one large area of the bubble hem (see photo). Most of the discoloration is hidden as it's inside the hemline, but certainly some of it can be seen. It blends in with the brocade, but it's there. The price reflects the issue... Hem it up shorter and the the problem disappears. Measures: 35/36" bust, 27" waist, 31" long from waist to hem. $ 685. SOLD

SOLD#9905 - c. 1938 RARE "Matador" Red Raw Silk Jacket with Embroidered Gold Bouillon Decoration! This is SO much better in person! Check out the close-up photos to see the great detail! I've recently found photos of the rich and fashionable women of the 1930's in similar jackets (and remember, this was depression era, so there were not that many rich and fashionable women!). These highly decorated cropped jackets were worn as for dinner over fairly slinky dresses and gowns. Or for the progressive women... wide-legged, high-waisted pants. Let me first say that this feels like a dream on! Lined in a so soft red silk satin. Ooohhh! You'd want to wear without anything else under just to feel it.. and you can as it's snaps up the front so can be worn open or closed. Measures: 33-35" bust, 34" around at waist, 16" long from shoulder to hem, 7/8 length sleeves (to be worn originally with loads of bracelets and/or gloves). The wonderful still shiny patina gold bullion is 3-dimensional with wrapped cords, rings, chainstitch, etc. in a wide variety of embroidery styles. Tiny red and green beads placed to look like gemstones and gold sequins all over. Glamorous jacket in high style! Hard to find great 1930s pieces. $ 465. SOLD (actually decided to KEEP!)
