Click on image for additional photos!#3785 - c. 1990's GALANOS Silk Butterfly Dress with Matching Gauze Chiffon Coat! Designed by one of the most popular American Designers of the mid-century, GALANOS of Beverly Hills dubbed "America's couturier". Using couture standard dressmaking techniques which made his pieces expensive. James Galanos worked in Hollywood with John Louis head of costume design at Columbia Pictures, and showed in first collection in 1953 which won him the coveted Coty award in 1954. Average price of his clothes in the 50's was $400! NOTE: I'm guessing as to the decade of this outfit. It's nearly timeless, so it could easily be from the 60's or 70's as well! This gorgeous two-piece outfit is created from an unbelievable, stunning silk gauze chiffon butterfly print. There is a lined silk chiffon sheath dress and matching sheer silk gauze chiffon coat with inset panels in skirt to create a flouncy hem. The coat closes with two sets of string ties, the sleeves are cut on the bias and the cuffs are completely hand smocked and zip closed. (This coat can easily be worn with many other items under for a multitude of looks!). Many of the features are hand sewn, the entire coat is finished with french seams and delicate bias trim, the dress with sideseam zipper. Near Mint condition. Measurements: 34/35" bust (best for A/B cup), 28/29" waist, up to 36" hip, 38" long from shoulder to hem with additional 5" hem in dress. Approx. - SIZE 4/6

There are many beaded shell tops around as every well-dressed woman had a few in her closet in the 1960's. However, some women were richer than others, and those women shopped at the best stores... Saks Fifth Avenue being one! Now, I was told that this top was purchased at Saks in 1965 in San Francisco for $350! I can't confirm that at all...... but obviously the woman who owned this remembered that it was a very expensive item when originally purchased! Fully fringed hipline with beads. Lovely gentle diamond design of iridescent sequins, beads and rhinestones. Silk lined. Measures: 36" bust, 39/40" hips, 22" long from shoulder to bottom of fringe. Excellent condition! This one screams Ann-Margaret! Approx. - SIZE 10

Wide shawl collar creates an attached capelet. Buttons up the back with fabric covered buttons. Two large hip patch pockets. 1/2 length sleeves. Originally had a belt, but looks fine without. Measures: 34" bust, 25" waist, up to 36" hips, 28.5" long from waist to hem (plus 5" hem). Excellent condition, with just some minor surface dirt on the skirt (like it was swept on a dusty floor), so you may want to dry-clean. The perfect classic black dress to dress up or wear as is! I'm not very good at naming fabrics, but someone else called this bombazine. It's a heavy silk. Great halter neckline with collar and sexy low back with interesting backstrap placement. A-line gown. The gown zips up side and is lined in navy silk. Comes with the matching cutaway bolero lined in a bright lemon yellow silk faille for pizzazz! Measures: 40" bust, up to 35" waist, up to 42" hips, 54" from back of collar to hem. Excellent condition, could just use a snap or two on the back straps for neatness, otherwise near perfect. Approx. - SIZE 10/12

If you have an audience with a Rajah, you might consider wearing this suit if you don't look all that good in a sari! Stunning! Opulent in an exotic way. Simply cut. The suit consists of a long collarless jacket and a short matching skirt in the most amazing, unique textile. Gold metallic thread embroidered in an oriental pattern on fine net, backed in silk voile. The edges of the jacket are finished in the most extravagant trim consisting of large crystal baguettes, faux pearls and tiny crystal beads. Measures: 34-36" bust (though no stretch in fabric, so the back feels tight, so I'd suggest if you are a 36" bust, that it's more "upfront" than a wide back. The skirt is 30" at lower waist, 35" hips, 17" long skirt (short). The skirt is in desperate need of a walking slit so you may need a tailor for that. Has shoulder pads to help shape. Sheer lining under the gold metallic lace, so you may want to wear a camisole or blouse under. Excellent condition. Best for a woman with small bum and larger top (not good for an hourglass shape). Don't believe the Size 12 label!!! McFadden Couture jeweled suits and gowns easily cost over $5,000 new!! Approx. - SIZE 6 ish (best for large top, small hips!)

Yeah, there are lots of beaded sweaters out there, but first off, I love the ones with fitted waists (they are earlier than the 60's cardigans which are longer). Second, have you ever seen a nicer one? Winter white knit with thousands of tiny white glass beads all intricately woven in a floral lace design both front and back! Also a beaded collar!! Scattering of beads on cuff and bottom edge of sweater. Faux pearl buttons. The sweater is lined under the knit, but unlined under the lace, so you will need something under... or not! :) There are no tags, but it's not 100% cashmere, likely it's a cashmere/wool blend. Excellent condition. I had to search hard to find 3 tiny (pinhead size) marks on one sleeve, two near elbow and one further down. Beading is in near mint condition. Approx. - SIZE Small

Click on image for additional photos!#3637 - c. 1960's PAULINE TRIGERE Turquoise Blue Wool Evening Coat Encrusted with Rhinestones! Should be in the museum section! This is one of the few items I will guarantee to be of a certain designer even without a label. I have seen enough Pauline Trigere's in my life to know that this is HER... I know from the type of rhinestones and wool tailoring that nobody else can copy. Even down to the quality of the heavy wool. You will have to trust me, unless you are as knowledgeable as I (ah-hem!), and you know it's a Trigere as well. Scrumptious color of bright turquoise. The entire neckline, yoke and upper sleeves are lavished with glass rhinestones in every conceivable shape and size. All of these fantastic sparkling stones are in pristine condition, with no darkening, so they catch the light incredibly. The coat itself is soft, very high quality wool (possibly with some cashmere content). Fully lined. Comes with a matching turquoise blue silk scarf from Paris. Excellent condition with the exception of some very light fading down the top of the shoulders down the top of the sleeves. It may be just old dust from hanging on a hanger.. and may get better.. but I haven't dry-cleaned the coat to attempt. It's perfectly wearable the way it is. Measurements won't help much, but I'm a size 6 and this is just a slight bit too large, hence....a size 8. Measures about 37/38" bust, 37" long from shoulder to hem. Approx. - SIZE 8

Click on image for additional photos!#3641 - c. 1950's HERBERT SONDHEIM Gold Lame Evening Coat! If you take a look through some old Vogue Magazines, you will see that Herbert Sondheim was a top label of the era. Likely very expensive. I had one Sondheim dress in the past, and that was extraordinarily well-made, so no surprise to see this amazing gold lame coat with that label!! Like liquid gold, the most incredible, drapy gold lame fabric in the "new look" shaping. Also has a huge shawl collar that is actually a hood! The coat has a swingy circle skirt with lots of tiny gathers below the waistline, bodice overlaps and snaps at the waist. Sleeves are full with wide split cuffs. The silky lining is a creamy gold. The coat could easily be altered by moving a snap at the waist. Measures: 46" long from shoulders to hem, 30" long from waist to hem., up to 39" bust, 28" waist, and 100" around the swingy skirt. Excellent condition, but for the original belt which is missing.., and if you are picky, the hem of the lining only is a tiny bit dirty. Make an entrance! This is a High Fashion Coat! I dare you to find another! Approx. - SIZE 6 - 10/12 (with snap moved)

Yes, you can look like a well-heeled socialite with just the right "threads". I always wondered why wealthy people looked wealthy. Now I know after trying this on myself, looking in the mirror and realizing even I could fool the Town and Country set in this! The Lanvin suit is nice, but it's the fox trimmed matching cape that is killer!! This is not a cape you drop off at the coat check... no... you wear it, wrap it, and just act cold so you can keep it on no matter what! If you get a hot flash... suffer through it! Oh, and don't confuse this fox trim with the new ones you see today. This is twice the fur! Charcoal and white flannelish (is that a word??) polkadotted fabric of mid-weight wool (see closeup to see the look of the fabric). The trim on the jacket is of an abstract design. Padded shoulders. Wide waisted skirt. Labeled size 42. Measures: up to 37" bust, 29.5" waist skirt, 22" long skirt from top of waist, 17.5" long jacket from shoulders, 17" across back of jacket, 18" across shoulders, 78" x 42" triangular cape. Excellent condition with two tiny pinhole moth holes in the cape (see photos), that disappear in the polkadots. Wear the cape without the suit for ultra elegance anytime! Or wear the skirt and the cape with simple black sweater, or.... well, whatever you want, as you are only paying for the fox trimmed cape anyway for this price! $ 1,485. SOLD

I'd keep this in a hearbeat! First off it's 100% cotton (and so soft cotton at that), and floral (my favorite), and pink (my all-time favorite), and low scoop rounded square neckline (So flattering), with wide enough straps for a bra (gotta have that!), and low scoop back (sexy).... and then to top it all off there are matching bows on the belt.. not just at the front, but the sides as well!!! Oh, and then the back skirt is a gathered fuller look than the front! And wait.. there are even some beads at the bodice! I mean, my god... if I had to put a dress together from scratch, this would be it! Sadly it's a good size current 14. :( Measures: up to 43" bust, up to 34" waist, 41" long from shoulder to hem. I don't usually list practically new dresses, but come on... can you blame me??? And how vintage does this look??? Mint condition. This is less than what you would have paid for it new, and for once for a new dress, it's worth it! $ 385. SOLD

SOLD on LAYAWAY#4372 - c. 1990's MARY MCFADDEN COUTURE Sea Green Embroidered and Beaded and Gold "Fortuny" Pleated Silk Gown! Over $5,000 retail! Worthy of an Egyptian high priestess! This is McFadden at her best... from her top Couture line. Please take a look at the close-up photos so you can see all the beaded and embroidered detailing of the bodice and neck, sleeve and hip banding. Includes: Sequins; metallic threads; embroidery; clear, aurora, gold beads; gold metallic and sea green colored rope detail, etc., etc. The gorgeous gold color skirt is created from her signature Marii fabric, a technique she developed for pleating synthetics into tight, narrow pleats which is nearly indestructible and evokes Mario Fortuny's early 1900's pleated silk. Her designs draw from the past. McFadden is quoted as "always looking for the ancient and mysterious", and many of her designs clearly use Egyptian, Indian, and Greek for influence. Sarah Jessica Parker was recently spotted wearing an electric blue pleated velvet McFadden.. so you KNOW McFadden's will soon be HOT HOT HOT again! Excellent condition. Measures: 34" bust, up to 31" waist, up to 40" hips, 55" long from shoulder to hem. The neckline is high and slightly padded shoulders. Lined in a gauze. Not much information is available on the "Carol Lee label", but in searching I found that the successful international business was started in 1974 in England and were worn by stars, and others who loved looking glamorous. Her clothing was featured on many TV programs, mostly for dancers in variety shows and comedies. When manufacturing in England became commercially unviable in the late 1980s, even for the exotic one off creations which the Carole Lee label was famous for, Carole Lee and her husband decided to change gears and open their fantastic Priory House as a B&B and wedding destination. As I mentioned above, if this dress had no label, you would assume it was a Zandra Rhodes piece. Black curly sheer "scarves" covered with gold sequins and gold, blue and orange embroidery. Even the lining has a handkerchief hemline!! Halter style with NO back. Comes with the original matching tie belt. You can wear the halter tie in a bow or hanging down the back. Low "v" front neckline. Excellent condition. VERY different. One-of-a-kind! The waistline is all elastic, so will fit quite a few different sizes! Shown on a size 6 mannequin and she looks great in it, so these are the MAX measurements: up to 42" bust, up to 36" waist, 45" - 55" long from shoulder to hem. Worn by the original owner at a party in NYC and was photographed in it with Roger Moore, you know.. "Bond... James Bond"! $ 745. SOLD

Click on image for additional photos!#5720 - c. 1960s Saks Fifth Avenue Black Sequin and Beaded Fringe Dress! Looking for a simple "LBD"? This isn't that! :) This is a smashing LBD! (That's Little Black Dress for those of you who are not savvy fashionistas.) The 1960s was the era of the fringed beaded dresses (evoking the look of the 1920s where fringe went flying on the dance floor while doing the Charleston). There were later really cheap versions of this dress in the 1980s (those are the ones to avoid... as they are cheezy), but these are still great from the 60s. Completely covered in black sequins with the teeny tiny black seed beaded creating the scalloped fringe all over front and back of dress. Back metal zipper. Excellent condition. Measures: up to 34" bust, up to 28" waist, up to 38" hips, 38" long from shoulder to hem. Someone took up the dress a bit less than 2" at the shoulders (so well done, I barely knew), but as it, it is a bit high in the underarms.... but perfect length (just skimming the knee for me at 5'2", so I see why someone did it)... however you can just take down the straps easily (just basted up) if you want. Very fun on! As with any all sequined dresses, some sequins will fall off, but there are millions of them. $ 425. SOLD

SOLD#5371 - c. late 1960s/early 1970s TRAVILLA White Lace Gown with Tiny Pink Petals! For all you wanna-be Princesses in a fairytale, Travilla designed this gown specifically for you. Though William Travilla worked for many many years for Hollywood films and TV, he is best known for dressing one specific star, and even more importantly, one specific iconic dress! In 1953, Travilla created the white cocktail dress Marilyn wore in the film The Seven Year Itch. You know the one... worn over the subway ventilation grate and the dress blows up around her. And it seems that Marilyn was quite enamored as she once wrote to Travilla "Billy Dear, please dress me forever. I love you, Marilyn." So... how about a Travilla for you? Certainly not as sexy as the subway dress, but a charmer in a different way. Great for a romantic vintage themed wedding. Huge balloon sleeves. Cuffs and neckline are edged in the pink flowers, and they are strewn all over the gown. Slightly high waistline, great sweetheart neckline underdress, wide pink original belt with flowers at front. Back zipper (even that is nicely tailored). Excellent condition with the exception of a few of the flowers missing and I see one spot at front bust (see photo). Measures: 34/35" bust, 31" high-waist (ribcage), 59" long from shoulder to hem. Also Listed in the Wedding Category. $ 865. SOLD

SOLD on LAYAWAY#7323 - c. 1950's EMMA DOMB Black Flocked "Sabrina" Ballgown! I'm always looking for ballgowns that evoke the look or feel of Givenchy's ballgown worn by Audrey Hepburn in the movie "Sabrina". Probably my favorite dress of all time (though there are close runner-ups!). So although this really doesn't look like Givenchy's masterpiece, it just has that feel..... that "je ne sais quoi". And Emma Domb usually does a nice job of it. This gown is a black flocked floral design on white nylon over white netting over white rayon lining. Gives it a ethereal look and nice crispness. Measures: 35" bust, up to 28" waist, 45/46" long from natural waist to hem (quite long!!). Metal zipper at back. Excellent condition with just a hint of underarm spotting, but you can barely see it (see photo). $ 945. SOLD on LAYAWAY

Step into this jumpsuit, yup jumpsuit, and you are done! OK, add some shoes. Wear with or without a blouse under, or t-shirt for a bit more funk. There was a belt originally, but no belt comes with it. A simple belt will do... or "girl" it up with a bow belt! Or no belt at all. This is the highest-end Ralph Lauren label... the purple label. This is the label you see on the runway. I don't have to say much more than the photos. Wear the collar more up or down (see photos). Classic. Perfect. The pants have pleats at front, but they are wide legged, so you don't have that "peg-leg" look of the 80's. Excellent condition. Well, if your guy is about a 40/42 Regular jacket size.... and you get some black satin pajama pants... and don't forget the pipe... well then missy... you are now a Playboy Bunny! :) I tried this on my 44L boyfriend and it was too small/short for him, so size is approximate and since it's a wrap it will work on a couple sizes. Red is wacky to photograph so it's coming out a bit wavy looking, but it's not, just solid red velvet with the black rayon satin trim. Comes with the matching tie sash. The condition is great other than two areas with VERY minor splotches (see the two close-up photos. If you can't see anything, that's how inconsequential they are!). Great fun gift.
