#5001 - c. late 1880's Silk off-White Faille-like Trained Reception Gown with Moss Green Silk Bows/Trim and Lace! Near MINT condition! I bought this gown a long time ago for my personal collection. It's been living in a garment bag and I believe I finally heard her scream to "get out!" She had every right! She's way to fabulous to be tucked away.. Too small to wear, unless you are about 12, but would make a wonderful display piece... since it's in absolutely amazing condition... and still incredibly white (well, off-white, the color she is supposed to be! No dinginess from age! She's like Dorian Gray! I have no clue how she survived in such wonderful condition for 130 years. The fabric is a heavy faille-like silk, the front panel has draping of same color china silk fashioned with all original 7 moss colored green silk bows. Same silk trims the extreme high neck and cuffs... along with lace. Even has the original lace under the hem of the dress.. on the inside.. all the touches you'd want to see. Closes with hook and eye down the front, but the eye is actually more like a sewn buttonhole. Absolutely clean and strong! Like new!!!! Dates to pre-1880 with the seam over the shoulder (as you can see in the close-up photos), and has the pocket near the back of the skirt, also dating to that period. Measures: 29" bust, 11" across back between arm seams, 23" waist, 50" long from shoulder in front, 67" long in back. Tiny.. but top of the line for your collection!

#4752 - c. 1910 Embroidered Silk Evening Gown! NOTE: The color is a light ivory...the photos have been darkened and yellowed a bit to show detail.. otherwise it just looked too plain in the photos. OK? Think IVORY!!! Ivory... Ivory... Ivory. OK.. now to the details. I have not seen a gown of this material before... it's the same ecru silk embroidery that you see in many shawls of the era. So hard to capture with my camera (damn!), but check out the close-up photos to see the amazing detail! The gown is completely covered with embroidery.. other than the underskirt at front. The upper back embroidery is that of a full peacock within a floral wreath! Gorgeous! Pretty bead ornament at waistline at front. Rhinestone, pearl and bead design drip down both sides of gown back and decorate the back waistline. Dangly beaded tassles at front and back. Was very likely a wedding gown as there seems to be a place to attach a train (now missing). She was obviously a practical bride... choosing a gown she could wear again for any evening event. The overskirt flows and ripples as you walk! This is a piece you will get lost in when seeing upclose and in person!! The condition is good, but there are some issues.. the lace on the cuffs is torn, so will need to be removed or replaced. There is a stain on the lower skirt, but covered with the overskirt. Minor tiny spots on underskirt. Dirt at hemline in back.

#3506 - c. 1909 Black Dinner or Reception Gown of Black Dotted Net Elaborately Decorated with Braid and Satin Rouleau! There are many boring antique black gowns, you know.. everyone has one or two from their Great Aunt or Great Grandmother found in old boxes in the attic. They must have been stored away on the off-chance that someone died, so the mourning clothing was always within reach. However.... just imagine the lucky girl who opened the old box from her Great Grandmother and pulled out this treasure! No boring black gown here! Details practically popping off the net fabric... so highly decorated! The boring black taffeta is under as the lining. The gown is covered all over with silk trim, soutache/rouleau and satin ribbons. Desirable high neck. Long sleeves with cuffs. Excellent condition exterior. The interior polished cotton lining has some tears in the bodice exposing some cracking stays, and the petersham is tearing. But please, pay attention to the exterior! Measures: 30" bust, 23" waist, 55" long from shoulder to hem in front, 64" long in back.

#4058 - c. 1890 Museum Quality Tambour Embroidery Wool Robe Museum! Wow! That was about all I could say when I first set my eyes on this robe. Base is a black wool with a rust-colored velvet yoke and cuffs with black beaded trim at cuff. The beauty of this piece is the green, purple, ecru and brown embroidery of long graduated vines of grapes and leaves. The embroidery down the front on both sides is straight line but matching. Nice black flat rope braiding design at upper back and trim on the velvet with bow at neck. The robe is unlined but has an orange silk ruffle at the interior hemline. There is minor wool fading, and small holes here and there (some repaired, others have backing, so they don't jump out at all!), and the rust velvet is dingy and worn... yet the knowledgeable dealer who inspected this prior to myself called it just plain Excellent condition (guess I'm pickier!). Faded lining. Still all in all a remarkable piece to survive the ravages of over a hundred years of hungry moths! :) Best for a short gal of 5'0' - 5'2" if you want it to slightly train. Also listed in the Lingerie Section.

#4223 - c. 1915 White Linen Cutwork 3-piece Walking Summer Suit! Someone else had called this a Traveling Ensemble. I don't know what makes it mostly suitable for travel, but hey... sounds good! It was also represented as "English".. though there is no label, so I can only pass on that piece of information. Wonderful outfit! Whitework embroidery and cutwork trim. Pretty scalloped edges of jacket. 3/4 length sleeves. The vest ties at the waist with string to create a blouson style. seems smaller across the back mostly. Excellent condition.. crisp, strong, white linen. There is just a hint, that's a hint (have I made myself clear... a hint) of yellowing and minor dirt on and behind the lowest button on jacket. Measures: Up to 48" bust on jacket (meant to be worn large and loose), 32" waist on skirt, 37" ankle length skirt, up to 39" hips. Jacket is 15" across back and 35" long. You will probably want to have the opposite body-type than me.. I'm thin waist, wide hip. This should work best on thicker waist, small hips (in my next life I'll have cute little hips, but alas... I'm made for childbirthing!

#3188 - c. 1930 Black Lace Evening Gown with Original Slip! LARGER SIZE! I'm cheating a bit here. This category is only supposed to go up to 1929, but this was so close to the era, and I thought it would appeal to those of you who like the late 1920's, so.... here it is. Easily wearable straight style with a very interesting waist/hip detail of a black silk crepe chevron inset in front and matching one in the back, meeting at the sides. Measures (although hard to know for sure since it's a bias cut with "give): up to 38" bust, up to 42" hips, 55" long from shoulder to hem, silk organdy Excellent condition with rose lace. Original black slip is attached. Side snaps. You will want to find a nude bra to wear under so the straps don't show. I'd suggest a strapless, but I hate them - am I the only one? They don't seem to work very well for my "c" cup! I showed with a bit of lace "flower" at bust in one photograph.

#3624 - c. 1909 Embroidered Ecru Wool Day Dress! So hard to believe that those nasty little moths stayed off of this dress for nearly 100 years!!! Perhaps they took one look at the dress and said "Let's go elsewhere.. this dress is too pretty to eat up!". Somehow I doubt it, but it would be a cute children's story! :) Lovely ecru fine wool gown with two tiered skirt (allowing for the wool to create a near ruffle at the hemline!) Gorgeous white lace at extreme high collar (very desirable for collectors) and long "undersleeves". The design on the bodice is pretty brown embroidery on net with rope trim. Extremely small gown.. sorry.. great for your 10-year-old... or perfect for a display gown! Measures: 28/29" bust, 22" waist, 36" hips, 56" long from shoulder to hem. Excellent condition with the only issue is that a section of netting is gone at back shoulder (see photos).. not noticeable as it's nearly invisible netting.

#4242 - c. 1929 Printed Chiffon Dress with Matching Jacket! Makes you just pray for a soft breeze to gently tease the floral chiffon hemline ... and, oh wouldn't it be lovely if we could all live the perfect moments of our lives in "slow-motion"! :) If so, you really would need this dress to make the most of it. "Floaty, sheer, ethereal...(and lots of other words you can fill in yourself)". The dress is fairly simple, and fairly straight in the front with the low-hipped "belt" (which is really just pleated material.) The back of the dress dips to a slightly lower hemline with lots more gathered material to make the skirt full at back. "V" neck front and back. The matching chiffon jacket has no closures, just meant to be worn open, and has a floppy bow at one shoulder.

#0948 - c. 1925 Deep Chocolate/Black Velvet Flapper Dress with Glorious Gold and Silver Beading, Sequins and Rhinestones! I found an etching of a similar dress by Parisian master, Molyneux, in the "Authentic French Fashions of the Twenties" book by JoAnne Olian... dating the dress to 1925. I love the look of the hemline.. has a royal crown look! Some of the softest silk velvet you will ever feel (looks somewhere between brown and black, depending on the light). The beading is amazing in person! SO sparkly with gold bugle and small beads, clear small aurora sequins, silver balls, and rhinestones. This dress is a bit small on the mannequin's 35" bust, so it is a bit pulled on her... it will look better on smaller than a size 6. Condition looks excellent, but tears were discovered as the netting under the beading is showing weakness.  The dress is on its way to get re-inforced.  If you want an awesome decorative deco flapper dress, you will love this in person! Not perfect, but the beading and design is "killer"! If it's a Molyneux... I lose! Measures: 38" to 46" long from shoulder, 34" bust, up to 36" hips.

#3623 - c. 1895 2-piece Gold and Ivory Brocade Dinner Gown with Pleated Chiffon! Pretty as a picture! This is the gown you would want to wear if you were invited to a casual dinner with the Vanderbilts in 1895. Now, I'm assuming, of course, that in your previous life, you were friends with the creme de la creme of high society. Oui? To attract one of Mr. Vanderbilt's rich friends, you probably would have added a few flower ornaments, as many woman did back then (see old fashion etchings if you don't believe me!) . Gorgeous gold and ivory silk brocade skirt and pleated silk chiffon bodice with huge puffed brocade and chiffon sleeves. Excellent condition outside, inside lining has some discolorations on lining only. Measures: 30" bust, 23" waist, 38" long waist to hem.

AUTHENTIC - "Gangs of NY" Wardrobe

SOLD
#4689 - c. 1860's Repro for the 2002 "Gangs of New York" Screen Worn by David Hemmings as Mr. Schermerhorn Plaid Velvet and Quilted Plush "At Home" or Smoking Jacket! Disclaimer:  I'm told it's screenworn, but I must tell you that I hated this movie, so I couldn't bear to watch it again to look for this smoking coat, so I'll leave it up to you.  Frankly I didn't care since I bought this particular piece for it's incredibly accurate antique look.  Most of the costumes from that movie were lower-class characters and therefore purposely dirty and worn.  NOT THIS PIECE!  As this was one of the few Upper Class characters. Worn by actor David Hemmings... perhaps best known for starring in the 1966 x rated movie, "Blow Up" with high fashion model Veruschka. Excellent condition and extremely elegant. Brown plaid velveteen with brown plush quilting at collar and long cuffs, with claret color rope trim and velvet cuff buttons. Frog closures at front. Measures: 44" long shoulder to hem, 25.5" long sleeves from outside shoulder seam to cuff. Fully lined. So... get him his slippers and pipe and play "Gentleman of the house"... you can be the French maid! :)  Comes with COA from Miramax Films and prop company. Also Listed in the Memorabilia Section.

#1733 - c. 1918 Navy Wool Twill Embroidered Suit! Originally donated by Amelia Mulrooney. So says the hand-printed tag inside the suit! Looks like it's it might have been deaccessioned from AAUW (the American Association of University Women)?? Wherever it is from, there is no question that had I been around in 1918, I would have bought this suit for myself. However, I was not around... but that's only because I had just been murdered by Bolsheviks, so I wouldn't have time to get to my next life yet! (Yes, I'm sure I was the Czarina Alexandra.. and, of course, that was after I was Cleopatra, and Anne Boleyn in my previous, previous lives!! :) Amazing that I would come back in 1954 as a nobody!!! Anyway... you wanna hear about the suit??? Great navy blue wool suit with awesome detailing.. including the double tasseled tie belt, the multitude of small buttons decorating down each side of the jacket, the embroidered small pockets at front and around the back hem and midback of jacket. The interesting design of the jacket hemline that dips down at the sides. And although the butterscotch colored geometric designed silk lining has problems... it's still a terrific addition! Measures: 37/38" bust, 27" long jacket from back to hem, 30" waist of skirt, 38" long skirt. Excellent condition with a few issues.. the lining is ripped and stained... but other than that... I just see two double pinhead size moth holes in jacket, and three on skirt... a few stitches of navy thread will do wonders!

#3649 - c. 1898 EDOUARD LOTTE, PARIS Promenade Gown of Blue Wool and Black Silk Ribbon with Velvet and Elaborate Steel Beaded Trim! Yes, a PARISIAN gown... this would have been the height of fashion in 1898. Fabulously interesting fabrication of navy blue boucle-type wool with black puckered silk ribbons throughout. The bodice is trimmed in silk velvet at high collar, lapels and attached waistband. Highly decorative openwork cutouts of lower bodice covered with steel flower beading! Gotta look at the photos! Inset bodice is a bright blue silk covered with a beaded netting. Excellent condition except for the decorative beaded netting on front bodice which has tears (though I'm surprised it survived at all it's so delicate!), minor tears to silk lining of bodice... and if you want me to get really picky, very front of the black velvet waistband has minor wear. Steel trim is still all excellent. Wool is in excellent condition. Measures: 30" bust, 23" bodice waist, 26" skirt waist, 41/42" long skirt. Skirt has heavy underskirt to give shape. Color is darker, stripes are more subtle than shown.. but lightened to show details.

#4050 - c. 1902 Cotter, Utica/New York Red Silk Print "Gibson Girl" 2-piece Afternoon Gown! Absolutely brilliant! No fading in this bright (nearly shimmering) red and white silk patterned 2-piece gown, trimmed in steel beaded black velvet. Gorgeous. Pretty little steel beaded decorations cover the black velvet ribbon trim. Gown is set off by Irish crochet bodice and cuffs. Look at the pretty white silk trimmed skirt ruffle under hem! Slight pigeon front "s" curve shape. Very good condition. The exterior is fabulous with just extreme minor issues... minor silk pulls on sleeves, ever so slight dirty lace cuffs, but really only two issues that are worth mentioning and they are: one stiletto high heel sized hole at the back skirt clearly lost in the fabric pattern, and one glaring dark spot on middle bodice on lace (which could be cleaned or hidden under cleverly-placed black velvet ribbon trimming - I'll give you my ideas if you want them... I'm full of ideas as I'm a "know it all"... as are all the girls in my family... unfortunately for our husbands!!). Paper thin taffeta lining is starting to go on bodice, and to a lesser degree on the skirt lining. Measures: 31/32" bust, 25/26" waist, 13" neck, 42" long skirt in front, 50" long in back.

#4682 - c. 1926 Fabulous Pink, Green and Black Beaded Floral Flapper Dress with Beaded Ribbons! Stop the presses! The original antique shop price tag on this dress was $3,495! It's one of those dresses that could easily be marked higher.. so rare a design! I have had many fabulous beaded flapper dresses recently.. and this is yet another! Too bad my photos can't quite show the beauty of the dress... it's a rare design of deco and florals in gorgeous colors of soft greens and pink, silver, white, gold metallic threads and and black beads at the bottom! Like a Monet painting in a wonderful and rare mottled look! The back is similar to the front except there are two beaded "straps" that hang down the back from both shoulders for a bit of flirty fun. Measures: 34" bust, up to 40" hips, 43" long from shoulder to hem. Slip is attached. of light green satin so it's ready to wear. Excellent condition! The only issue are the back beaded straps which can be shorted to near perfection. Note: wear heavy beaded 1920s dresses with care please, so they survive the next 80 years! :) I added a pink ribbon at hip in some photos to show another look... doesn't come with the dress. AND If you want to update the look.. try wearing with a pink ribbon at empire waist! You won't see a prettier dress in the stores today!

#3826 - c. 1926 Deco Tea-colored and Orange Design Crepe Day Dress! I sell few day dresses, of any era, as I usually find them boring. But boring this is not!! My mother bought me the PBS or A&E series tapes called "The House of Elliott" since she was enamored by the 20's costumes in the program. No doubt this dress would have been in the show if they had known about it! Tea colored thin silk crepe fabric in two layers. The under sheath which you see in the front panel, hemmed with wide lace, and then the attached overdress, pleated from the shoulders, edged in wide ecru lace which is totally open front and back and only ties down with the separate original tie belt. The design is a print in the silk fabric. Black stripes ending in orange flowers in the deco design. Short open lace sleeves. Very good condition with tiny issues... unfortunately one spot in the middle of the underdress... luckily hidden when worn, underarm staining on lining just barely seen on the exterior, tiny area fabric pulled away at one shoulder, and overdress would have been tacked down more, but really not an issue and fine without that. Shown with my long pearl necklace. Doesn't come with it. So for $10 you'll have to go find your own long necklace, or bat your eyes and get the man in your to buy you the real stuff! :) I measured it flat and doubled it to get: up to 40" bust, up to 40" waist (straight shape), up to 44" hips, 45" long from shoulder to hem... meant to be worn loose.

#3438 - c. 1892 Wrapper in Olive and Red Shot Broche with Olive Satin Ribbon! Ah, back when women were women. Back when we dressed in silks and satins for morning tea. When gowns like this were worn as "breathers" from the tightly corseted day and evening gowns. Yup... these are the Victorian woman's "sweats"! :) Interesting combination of colors in this changeable silk, from olive to red. Excellent condition. Very large leg-of-mutton sleeves. This gown would look great on a mannequin in the corner of your room. She just has a great presence about her. Measures: 32/33" bust, 24/26" waist with tight ribcage, 41" long from natural waist.

Triple gathered piped sleeves with ruffled braiding at cuffs and collar. Two pockets at front.
