#978 - 1961 Fully Beaded Silk Shantung Gown with Matching Beaded Coat - Worn to John F. Kennedy's Presidential Inaugural Ball! So you can't afford to purchase Jackie Kennedy's inaugural gown, but you still want a piece of history in your closet? Look no further. This is probably one of the most extraordinary garments I've had the pleasure to touch. The workmanship is of couture quality. The timeless elegance of the gown is unsurpassed. And the condition is remarkable! Near Mint. I was told that this outfit was worn by a Mrs. Garrity. I have not been able to follow up with more information on who she was, or for that matter, who Mr. Garrity was.. and their connection with Kennedy. But perhaps you'd take the time and research it yourself. I only know that Mrs. Garrity had extraordinary taste and elegance. And obviously paid a fortune for this outfit new. The gown and coat are fully beaded with silver round and bugle beads, auroraborealis clear sequins and rhinestones in a floral vine-like pattern. This is NOT the kind of outfit you sit in! However, you will have to lean against the wall a few times since the gown and coat together weigh about 9 pounds!! Fully lined in a light rose silk. Mary Norton label, Coral Way - Miami and Main St. - Blowing Rock, N.C.
SOLD - but on display in Museum Category for Research/Study
