#4073 - c. 1950's Couture FALKENSTEIN Black Silk Chiffon and Champagne Colored Taffeta Grecian Gown! Wow! Top of the line! Exquisite design by Arthur Falkenstein. Falkenstein opened his atelier at the Hotel Meurice in New York in the 1930s. At first he purchased models from Paris and copied them, but by 1941 he was designing a wide gamut of clothing from smart suits to glamorous evening gowns. His designs rivaled the greatest American couturiers of the time including Hattie Carnegie, Sophie of Saks and has the look of a Parisian Jean Desses.  The gown is black taffeta topped with black chiffon draped and wrapped around a narrow skirt. There is an explosion of (removable) champagne colored silk taffeta and black chiffon off the right waist. The bodice is strapless with long chiffon scarf falling from the left shoulder to the ground. Side metal zipper. This gown is best for posing... not easy to wear. Measurements: 33" bust, 25" waist, 35" hips, 41" long from waist to hem. Excellent condition.  However... other than 5 smaller than matchhead sized graduated holes (in a line) in the attached scarf, there are some holes and some repaired holes to the draped chiffon at the hem area.  These were not seen until full inspection.  They are unavoidable on a gown like this.. as they come from walking/heels.  You won't see them under normal conditions.  Other than the fact that the zipper will need a quick machine stitching, the gown is still in remarkable condition for such a rare chiffon designer gown!
