#3008 - c. 1960's "Andy Warhol" Campbell's Soup Paper Dress! Now for a change of pace... those of you "in the know" know that these original 1960's Campbell's Soup Paper Dresses (design image from Andy Warhol's famous pop art painting) are fetching incredible prices! At Doyle's Auction House in NYC, in 1998, this dress sold for $1,600. In Sept, 2000, at Skinner Auction House in Boston, the dress sold for an amazing $2,300! And according to www.artnet.com, this dress sold at Sotheby's Auction House, NYC back in 1998 for $6,900!!! The dress is illustrated in Valerie Steele's Fifty Years of Fashion: New Look to Now pg. 61, as well as The Warhol Look: Glamour Style Fashion, The Whitney Museum of Art, pp 6-7. This dress is in Excellent original condition with the original "souper dress" paper tag still attached. Comes in what I assume is the original plastic bag. Never worn, still folded as new. The only thing I should mention is that the glue that was used for the washing instructions at the inner neck has created a stain behind it. I'm also assuming that that is the normal aging for all of these dresses. BONUS: comes with an original and I'm assuming rare Campbell's "Come'n Get It Soup Hat!
SOLD - but on display in Museum Category for Research/Study
