#1696 - c. late 1970's BOB MACKIE COUTURE Beaded Egyptian Influenced Gown. Bob Mackie is perhaps most famous for his outlandish dressing of Cher than anything else, but he has a long list of other top clients including Carol Burnett. He is well-known for his elaborate costumes for Vegas showgirls and most recently for his very lucrative and successful Barbie doll line. He has 30 Emmy award nominations, 7 Emmy awards and 2 Oscar nominations. This gown is from Bob's first collection made for retailers, a few years prior to his actual ready-to-wear launch in 1982. Yolanda's (an extreme high-end glitzy woman's boutique in the Boston area) was one of the first retailers to carry Mackie's designs. I was told by Yolanda herself that this gown's original price in the 70's was $14,000!! She also mentioned that she believed that Cher wore the original Mackie creation of this gown. Can't confirm it, but without a doubt, this is an extremely limited production top-quality gown. Sheer brown net gown is fully beaded with bugle beads and rhinestones. Has trompe l'oeil necklace and twisted bead “rope”, sheer beaded sleeves, and a brown silk crepe removable lining (so you can look just like Cher with just beads covering your vital parts!!). Excellent condition, near Mint.
SOLD - but on display in Museum Category for Research/Study
